Watching Chavonne buzz away all of her own hair herself — while giggling and with Soung dancing in the background — is surprisingly liberating to watch. I felt like a weight was being lifted off my own shoulders. People in the comments felt the same way. One of Soung’s followers called @daisy_villela wrote, “I feel freed just watching.” Soung even added that it was empowering to let Chavonne cut her hair herself.

After seeing this incredibly extra way to apply foundation, I’m learning to trust the clickbait on my Instagram Explore page. Eighty percent of the time, I fall for some hair-and-makeup shenanigans like a scam email. (Why did I really think they were going to apply eyeliner with a knife?) The other twenty percent of the time, the thumbnail is actually a preview of what is going to happen. Before tapping through to Seattle-based Cindy Soung’s latest post, I really thought I was going to be duped.

The thumbnail showed a woman holding clippers to the top of her long hair. I was sure it was going to be a joke until I pressed play and saw her actually go through with it. Upon the first pass, chunks of her chest-length hair started falling to the ground. In the caption, Soung explained that the woman, an esthetician named Chavonne, was ready for a change. “She came in wanting to go shorter, but when she showed me pictures, a buzz cut popped into my head,” Soung added. You can watch the complete hair transformation below.
